This month SeDoMoCha Elementary will be joining in on the One Book One School project just like we did last year. For those of you who do not know, the One Book One School program is designed to create a shared reading experience within a school community. A chapter book is chosen and every family receives a copy. The family reads the book at home over the course of the next few weeks. Activities at school coordinate, promote, and enrich the shared reading experience.

This year’s book is The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate. We are asking that you read the designated pages each night as a family (see parent guide and reading log). Reading aloud at home is valuable because it better prepares your child to be an effective reader. It is also a fun and worthwhile family activity. With the One Book One School program, we aim to build a community of readers at our school. Everyone – students, parents, teachers, and even administrative staff will be participating, and we can reap all the many benefits.

Please join us on Thursday, October 10th from 5:00p – 7:00p for dinner, games, crafts, and a special presentation with live animals from the Wildlife Encounters Ecology Center & Farm School . This will be a great way to end our One Book One School project. We hope that you enjoy this book together as a family and that this experience of reading together leads to many more nights of family gatherings sharing the love of reading.
