Hello SeDoMoCha Families

We wanted to send along some important information regarding the end of the 2019-2020 school year.  We know that this has not been the kind of year we were all expecting or hoping for.  We want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we have tried to navigate uncharted waters here at SeDoMoCha.  We know that school has looked very different since the middle of March and the end of year activities and traditions will look different as well.  So here are some important pieces of information that you will need to know about the end of the year moving forward.

Grading and Reporting:

As a reminder, our goal during this third trimester was to provide opportunities for students to show understanding of the concepts and skills that we will be trying to cover during the time of remote learning.  All learning tasks were designed to collect evidence of understanding.  This evidence will now be used to determine if students have met our expectations.   We will be using the following criteria for our third trimester reporting:

  • Meeting (Proficient)– Students have shown complete understanding of the concepts and skills covered during remote learning based on the evidence we have collected.
  • Developing (Partially Proficient) – Students have shown a basic understanding of the concepts and skills being covered during remote learning based on the evidence collected.
  • Incomplete (Insufficient Evidence)- There was not enough evidence collected during remote learning to determine student status.

The end of year report card will reflect this grading criteria for the third trimester.  If a student has an incomplete for the third trimester then this does not mean they will automatically be considered for summer school.   Other factors will be used to determine this.  This also will not affect their overall GPA for the year.  GPA will only reflect their scores from Trimesters One and Two.  All report cards will be mailed home after June 5th.

End of Year Awards:

We would like to continue our tradition of recognizing students for their accomplishments here at SeDoMoCha. This means that any year end awards that a student receives will be determined by their grades prior to this time of remote learning.  These awards will be mailed home with report cards for students in grades 5, 6 and 7.  Grade 8 students will receive their awards at the 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony.

8th Grade Promotion Ceremony:

We here at SeDoMoCha understand that this year represents a milestone in our 8th grade students educational journey.  We want to recognize this in some way and thank them for their hard work and dedication.  We are planning a promotion ceremony here at SeDoMoCha on June 3rd at 6:00.  This will not only be a way to put closure on their time here but also an opportunity to wish them well as they head off to Foxcroft Academy and beyond.  This will be a “drive-up” type event.  We are going to ask that each student bring one vehicle.  If family dynamics require more than one then we ask that you arrange your arrival so that you will be in the drive-up line together.   We will only let one student/family come up to receive their folder at a time.  This folder will include their certificate of completion as well as any other awards or certificates of recognition that they may have earned.  The specifics of the timeframe per student and opportunities for pictures are still being worked out but we do know that this will be a live streamed event that can be viewed online.  This will allow extended family and other community members to be part of the experience.  We will be sharing more information about this event as it becomes available.  For safety reasons we would ask that vehicles do not arrive prior to 6:00 pm on June 3rd for this event.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns then please contact us.
