On Wednesday, January 27, families should be getting a packet sent home with information about a food drive SeDoMoCha Elementary is organizing. We are partnering with the Dover-Foxcroft Area Food Cupboard to help bring much needed food and supplies to the residents of Piscataquis County.

This event is called “Read to Feed” and is much like a walk-a-thon. Students will be getting pledges from family, friends and community members to donate a certain amount of items to the drive for every ten minutes that the child reads through February 10. Outright donations of items are also accepted.

Typically, when we think of a food drive, we think specifically of food items, but there are other items that the food pantry needs such as kitchen supplies, baby items, and first aid supplies. The foods and items that are the most needed are listed in the packet that is going home.

All pledge sheets need to be turned into the child’s teacher by Thursday, February 11. We are hoping that all items will be dropped off to the school by the end of the day on Friday, February 12. Donation items can be dropped off in the donation box outside SeDoMoCha or brought in with students (and then put in a box in the lobby). Student participants need to let their pledgees know on February 10 how many minutes they read for and how many items their pledgee will be responsible for dropping off. There will be a reading log attached to the packet as well so that your child can keep track of the number of minutes they have read. Every student that participates will be entered into a raffle for a Kindle Tablet!
