Thoreau Club retraced sections of the Thoreau trips written about in The Maine Woods. They saw Chesuncook, Rippogenous Lake/Dam/Gorge, West Branch, Abol Bridge, and into Baxter State Park for a four mile hike. They ended by Togue pond to cook chicken cheese steaks before heading home. While not all of the places were on his routes the group enjoyed seeing and learning about the Maine Woods. Katahdin rising above evergreens and clear waters made for a beautiful day in Piscataquis County…our “backyard”.
